Abstract
Transtextuality, based on Gérard Genette's theory, emerged from the findings of thinkers from past centuries.Under the systematic framework of this theory, enthusiasts in this field can systematically analyze literary works and the process of text reproduction. The Masnavi-e Manavi, as one of the world's mystical masterpieces, with its various tales, stories, allegories, and didactic teachings, has transtextual relationships with earlier works, but its method of reproduction yields very novel results. In this research,Rumi's tale of the Old Harpist in the hypertext of the Masnavi was examined using a descriptive-analytical method based on Genette's theory of transtextuality, and it was determined that Rumi made the most use of intertextuality, architextuality and metatextuality in retelling this tale compared to earlier works.According to the research findings, the retelling of the tale involves types of architextuality, with its most prominent manifestation being transformation and various types of mutation, especially quantitative increase mutation and functional mutation in the form of repeated evaluation, substitution, and re-evaluation.He moved the tale from a summarized and report-like state to metatextuality through interpretation and expression, and with explicit and implicit types of intertextuality from the Quran, hadiths, tales and traditional musical modes, and by skillfully combining them with the mystical spirit governing his being,he depicted it in a novel way for the audience.
