The story of Sheikh Sanan is one of the most controversial and influential mystical tales that Attar Neyshaburi has arranged in Mantiq al-Tairbah. This story, which contains deep mystical and romantic themes, depicts a spiritual journey during which the Sheikh goes through stages of love and sacrifice to reach the truth. The importance of this story and its impact have caused it to be retold in different cultures and integrated with local customs and traditions. Among different ethnic groups, the Kurds have preserved this story in different forms and in the form of their folklore. There are two prominent versions of this story in Kurdish culture: Sheikh Sanan and Sheikh Farrukh and Khatun Este, which were collected by Fatahi Ghazi. While maintaining the general structure of Attar's story. Among these differences, we can mention the presence of Kurdish characters and customs that are not present in Attar's story.
This study examines the similarities and differences between these three narratives and aims to show the influence of local culture on the re-creation of mystical stories. Also, introducing Kurdish versions of this story helps in the interaction between cultures and a deeper understanding of mystical literature
